It was the Sabbath and three Jewish men could not be left there on that hill, still hanging from their crosses. It was time to finish it all and take the bodies away. Except that, unlike the two thieves, Jesus was already dead. One thing and, one thing only, connects all the players in this story; Jesus, the thieves and the leaders. They were all Jesus. They may have hated, or at least misunderstood, Jesus, but he was dead and should be buried like any Jew. This minor fact should be kept in mind, his Jewishness. It is often overlooked as he is redefined into a Gentile identity. Time to reclaim him I think.
