‘Comfort my People’ Day conferences (Isaiah 40:1)
If dead babies and the kidnapping of elderly women can’t sway minds to the reality of the utter hatred of Hamas (and their apologists) for the Jewish people, then how can we get through to people, God’s church in particular? How can they not realise the blindspot that has hidden the truth from them? The lack of response of our mainstream Church to the current wave of antisemitism is lamentable. God is needing Christians at this time to raise their heads above the parapet …
This year Steve Maltz (and friends, where available) is planning on running day conferences on the subject of Israel and the Jews. The format will be informal, interactive and … most importantly … instructive. The days would be a mixture of talks, worship, prayer, fellowship and practical response. Material is based on his new book, Why us? The Jewish Question and also his vast back catalogue of writings on Hebraic matters.
Suggested programme:
9:30: Introduction & worship
10:00: TALK ONE: The rampant rise of antisemitism in our culture
11:00: Tea & coffee
11:30: TALK TWO: All about Jewish people and our response to them
12:30: Lunch
1:30: Worship and prayer
2:00: TALK THREE: A Christian response
3:00: Questions, discussion, prayer, call to action
4:00: Finish.
A book table of resources will be provided, as well as practical exercises, where appropriate.
Cost: A freewill offering should be taken to cover costs (to at least cover travelling expenses).
Follow up: These events are intended as a starting point for any involvement you would want on this key issue for the Church. You will be given an option to joining our Tachlis community, meeting monthly on ZOOM to encourage each other and helping us to be a comfort to the Jewish people. Annual residential conferences (modelled on our renowned Foundations conferences) are a definite possibility.
What is required from you?
You will need to find a venue, organise a team to look after admin and practical tasks and advertise the event in your local community (We will also advertise it to our wider community). If you are not able to get a worship team together, we can work around it.
If this is all too much for you to cope with, we can also talk about shorter meetings, perhaps half a day or evening get-togethers or even for Steve to visit your church as part of your Sunday service.
