So Jesus was brought before Annas, the ex-High Priest and the father-in-law of the current incumbent, Caiaphas. No doubt Annas was still revered and a ‘person of significance’ who wanted to be ‘part of the loop’, perhaps just to mock and scowl at Jesus, who he hated.

How deluded we are. Power is fleeting and, although Annas ‘had his moment’, he will come to regret it later, as do all tyrants, either in this world or the next. We should live our lives eager to do the greater good, rather than ‘having our moment’, perhaps times of indulgences, that will one day come and haunt us. Be warned!
