And, as he so spoke. He lifted his Hands in blessing upon them and, as he was visibly taken up, a cloud received him.

We are once more in Jerusalem

Beyond this narrative we have only the briefest of accounts;

‍The scene moves to the Lake of Galilee.

Thomas had been absent from the circle of disciples on that evening.

‍That same afternoon the Lord had appeared to Peter

‍It was the early afternoon of that spring day perhaps soon after the early meal when two men from the group of disciples left the city.

The grey dawn was streaking the sky when they who had so lovingly watched his burial were making their lonely way to the rock-hewn tomb in the garden.

We read, ‘Now on the morrow, which is after the preparation the chief priests and the Pharisees were gathered together unto Pilate …

One other scene remains to be recorded.

The brief spring day was verging towards the evening of the Sabbath.

Now at last all that concerned the earthward aspect of his Mission, so far as it had to be done on the cross, was ended.

Some hours - probably two - had passed since Jesus had been nailed to the cross.

The thieves on the cross joined in the derision of the Sanhedrists and the people.

The terrible crime of slaying their Messiah-King rests, sadly, on Israel.

Bar-Abbas was at once released.

‍It was now that Pilate sat down on the judgment seat.

‍And so, Jesus was once more sent back to the Praetorium

And so, when he caught the name Galilee as the scene of Jesus’ labours.
