It was the greatest Bible study in history, given by Jesus himself to those two disciples on the way to Emmaus. They had been despondent as they thought that Jesus had failed in his mission. He put them right, simply by taking them through a tour of the Hebrew Scriptures, our Old Testament.

Jesus is there in the Old Testament, if you care to look for him. He is therefore present, either covertly or overtly in the whole Bible. He will be found if you look for him. Many don’t bother and are content with a ‘Jesus without a back story’. That is an incomplete Messiah, one without a Hebraic background, one that could entice you into false ideas about him, such as the one where he replaces the Jewish people and condemns them to a life of misery and persecution. This is called Replacement Theology and it is an aberration – avoid it at all costs!
