Incredibly, Peter denies knowing Jesus not once, or twice but three times. That tells us two things. Firstly, that we can keep deluding ourselves and it may need a shock, such as the crowing of a rooster, to get us to snap out of it. Secondly, God has patience. Sometimes we need leeway to make our mistakes, as long as we learn from them and finally come through. My guess is that Peter’s conscience was running overtime and the crowing of the rooster was the final straw. Pray that we too can read the signs if we are persisting in actions that we know, deep down, are not in accordance with God’s Will … and then put things right!
